This week-end I picked up a couple of old sheet music stands.

I loved the industrial looking feet on them.

They were pretty scratched up so today I got out my can of spray paint and cleaned them up a bit.

I couldn't stop there though and a number was added to each of them.

Since I was in a "paintin" mood and being that Valentine's Day is around the corner.

I decided to pull out an old tin tile and do a little painting on it also.

I loved how it turned out!

Three large items I was able to fix up and get to the shop.

That always feels so good.

Monticello will be having a storewide sale Sunday.

I "HEART" my van!

(there is a table…4 chairs…2 small tables in the back of that van! Yes!)

It is so nice to go to a sale and not have to go back with the pickup, especially when the sale is not right next door.

Today, I was able to load up the van and go on to the next sale!

AWESOME!

And you know what?

I could have stacked more on top of that wood!

On another note for those Picnik users, which I am, and so "LOVE"!

Apparently, they will be closing there website on April 19th.

Boo Hoo...

Oh...what am I going to do without Picnik?...I love it so!

So now I'm on the search for a photo editor.

I've used Picasa but its just not the same...

I didn't do much treasure hunting this week-end as there wasn't much out there that interested me.

But I did manage to meander into one about an hour after it opened.

I found one thing.

This sweet old child's chair.

It's the size of a high chair.

I love everything about it.

I love the old dark wood...

and all the details carved in the wood...

I love the fact that they used old wire around the legs to make it sturdy...

I love the fact that the wood is worn in different areas, probably from a very busy child.

So even though I didn't get into the "mother load" this week-end I do love my sweet chair!

My Old Navy Bag

During the week days proceeding Christmas I decided to take on a project that I've wanted to do for some time.

I've collected a few old canvas army and navy bags.

I thought they would make great totes when cut down.

I used an old navy bag for this project.

I decided to get out that pair of scissors and make the first cut.

Why is it always so hard to make that cut?

I ended up combining it with black and white stripe ticking.

I love how it turned out.

I was able to keep the old grommets on the bag as well.

This bag had a patch on it and since it added such personality to the bag I used it on the inside pocket.

See the "OREGON" on it.....love it!

I wanted to share with you one more of my Christmas decorations.

A Nativity.

It's one of my favorite things to put out each year.

It's a little larger than most Nativity sets and the colors are so bright.

I purchased this at a local estate sale for $3.00, can you believe it, $3.00!

This is what Christmas is all about!

God sending His Son to earth for you and me!

The greatest gift of all, Jesus Christ!

Christmas 2011

I've thought about writing a post many times....but I've come to the conclusion that I took to many pictures and felt a bit overwhelmed with it all.

So, in order to finally sit down and write something I'm just going to have to limit the pictures.

It's been two years, I think since we really decorated for Christmas.

By the time I finish getting ready for the show I am done with decorating.

This year was different.

We were to celebrate an early Christmas with my side of the family and we would do that at our house.

Sometimes you need a good excuse to clean and decorate and I knew I'd get things done around here if that happened.

We didn't go up to the mountain and get our tree as we've done in years past but I was pretty happy with my Home Depot tree!

I decided to decorate it with hand-made decorations as well as different things I had around the house.

Also incorporating some vintage ornaments in just the right colors.

I picked up some vintage cookie cutters the week before and thought they'd look pretty sweet on the tree also.

A few hand-made ornaments.

This origami bird took a lot longer to make then I thought it would so we only have one on the tree!

I ended up putting a second smaller tree in the kitchen surrounded by my little village people.

But that vignette soon came down after the village kept getting pillaged by the local "little monster".

The village was doomed!

Santa Claus would not make it for Christmas because he would be carried off to who knows where!

Little "blue boy" was always missing!

So this year the village people went into hiding and are safely tucked away in their boxes.

Another vignette takes its place.

And the village is at peace again, as well as Little Sister aka "little monster".

Here she is resting waiting for her next big adventure.....which, by the way, happened this morning!!!

Restocking

The Christmas Show continues at Monticello!

This was a very successful week-end!

I wanted to give a BIG, "Thank you" to everyone who came to the show.

Many things went home with new families but many things are still available.

While I was at the shop, this evening, Laurie from Worthy Goods was doing a total makeover of her space.

She had some wonderful items.

I also brought in a bunch of new items and revamped our area.

So, if you're thinking, "Oh shoot, I wish I could have made it this week-end, as all the good things are gone!"....not so, there are wonderful new things available!

My Warty Pumpkin

With December 2nd quickly approaching, things are busy in our little workshop.

Fortunately, my #1 does all the cooking around here, his idea, he loves it and I do want to make him happy!

This means one less thing I have to do around this time of the year.

Being Fall,we have had many different kinds of pumpkins and squash around here.

So my #1 has been cutting, cleaning and baking squash and pumpkins almost every night.

But there is one pumpkin he just can't tackle... my Warty Pumpkin!

He just can't seem to get around the fact that it looks like it has warts!

That's why I bought it....it was unusual!

I guess I'm going to be the one to use it...man, that means I'm going to have to cook!

But not this week!

Remember December 2nd the Christmas Show at Monticello starts!

White Wednesday

This past week-end my #1 tackled a project that has been waiting to be finished for quite some time.

Poor guy, I buy the projects and he finishes them...I don't know...it works for me!

I had a wonderful old pillar that I had found while junking.

The wood was falling apart around the top of the pillar so it needed to be taken down about 4".

Yeah! He got it done so...I replaced it with the one I originally had in my kitchen.

I like it so much better!

(NEW "OLD" PILLAR)

The original one wasn't made out of wood, it wasn't old, it wasn't chippy.

All the qualifications I require.

And last, you can't leave anything fluffy and new around our house!

An old crinoline was just to much of a temptation.

Riley couldn't resist!

Signs Of Fall

This past Monday was a field trip day at school.

The kids love field trips!

Field trips are a great way to slow down and appreciate the things you might not normally see when you're out and about.

The kids were so excited to show me this wonderful orange mushroom while at the park!

It is pretty fantastic, it maybe poisonous...but I made sure we didn't touch it.

Isn't it pretty!

Another little mushroom, not poisonous!

But still exciting!

Different mushrooms all over the park.

It's great to see things through the eyes of a child.

Another stop we make each year is the Dahlia garden.

The kids got quite excited seeing all the different Dahlia's.

I did too!

Last was the Canby Park.

The kids loved the park and I enjoyed finding acorns in the playground while they were playing.

A beautiful day for a field trip.

So if life gets a little hum drum...find a little buddy and take them to the park.

You'd be amazed at what you can find!

White Windy Wednesday!

Well, today is just beautiful here in Portland!

70 degrees, sunny, blue skies with a little bit of wind!

The perfect Fall day!

This past Sunday we had people coming over so I hit the garden looking for flowers, roses in particular.

Sad to say, my roses were pretty much gone, so I did the next best thing, the grocery store!

There's just something about fresh flowers in the house!

Mums are another flower I've been enjoying this Fall.

A local barn here in town is selling huge plants for only $4.99.

So, I went a little crazy and bought quite a few plants.

They bloom wonderfully inside the house and have lasted quite awhile.

Re-Organizing

Well, the Monticello Fall Show has come to an end!

It's been a busy few days cleaning, re-organizing a sprucing up our space.

I was able to get a few pictures.

The Mall is looking beautiful right now so even if you didn't make it to the show there are still many wonderful things to purchase.

Be sure to mark your calenders as the Monticello Christmas Show is only 6 weeks away!

It will open December 2nd and run through January 1st.

The Cone Of Shame

Pitiful...pitiful!

Today was the day Our Miss Brook got spayed!

Oh...talk about the "cone of shame"!

She is so frustrated with the little cone around her neck.

She will have to wear this for 10 days...I don't know if it will last that long.

Hopefully, she's a quick healer.

She's backed herself into a corner here.

She's forgot she can walk forwards and goes backwards all around the house...I'm sure it's the cone.

She's also a little dopey, she's got herself some good drugs they tell me.

Poor little thing!

A Little Treasure Hunting!

I had heard of a great estate sale that was to start on Thursday of this week.

Even though the chances of making it there when it opened were very slim, I went ahead and signed up for it anyway.

I was #58 on the list.

Unfortunately, I didn't make it and ended up being #160 when I finally got there.

It took 2 hours before I was able to go inside.

Sadly, it was pretty picked over by the time I walked through the doors.

Backing up just a little ... this year I have taken Fridays off hoping to get in an extra day of estate shopping.

Unfortunately, for me this sale opened Thursday!

They're killing me!

This sale was only Phase 1....Phase 2 is....that's right next Thursday!

I know many of you run into that same problem.

...but enough complaining...

These picture are from a journal I picked up from the sale this week.

It's a smaller size measuring 9"x 5.5".

It's from the 1800's and is a fur trading journal.

The Mississippi Valley Fur Co., in Chester, Illinois.

All the sales from skunk to mink have been written down in this book.

I thought my #1 would get a kick out of it and he did.

Re-Arranging

I've been eyeing my display cabinet, in the living room, this past week and feeling like I wanted a little change the top of it.

I've loved all my vintage pieces displayed on it and as I'm not one to change things around to much the "basic" vignettes have stayed the same.

I wanted to SIMPLIFY!

So...I cleared it off and started new!

At a recent estate sale I acquired a couple of sets of vintage shutters.

They have all the great crackly paint I love so I used one set and started there.

I'm a sucker for these vintage wig heads.

I'm afraid I've kept everyone I've found!

My re-arranging took me to another wall in the living room.

And this beautiful Paul De Longpre picture found its way in my new display.

I'm slowly moving around the room, changing things.

You know how it goes, you start one thing and it leads to another.

When I get another wall completed I'll show you how it turned out!

Fall Is In The Air!

Let me start off by saying "Little Sister" is growing like a weed!

I know, it's inevitable!

They can't stay tiny forever.

She is constantly tormenting her big brother and sisters!

I don't know if she's trying for the "dominant cat" position or if she's just doing what comes naturally, but it is pretty funny watching them!

On another note, I did a little shopping today.

One of the things I found was this sweet child's wheelbarrel.

I thought is would be perfect to dress up for Fall.

As much as I'm digging my heels into the fact that Fall is just around the corner, it was fun to see pumpkins in the store.

It seems like summer took so long getting here this year that I want it to last a little longer.

This little wagon will make it's way into the Fall Show.

I think it will look sweet on someone's front porch loaded with pumpkins.

I can't keep everything!

Even though my #1 thinks I try!

Re-Stocking Shelves

Wow, it was a very successful day at Monticellos today.

The staff was working like crazy today helping the customers with their purchases!

They are so greatly appreciated for their hard work!

A big thank you also to all of the wonderful people who came out on the first day to see the show!

We sold quite a bit today, so before closing, we went in to re-stock our space.

So, don't worry if you didn't make it today you still can purchase wonderful new old items.

The shop will open at 10:00am tomorrow!

Getting Ready For The Fall Show!

Things are hopping around here!

In only a couple of weeks we will be setting up for the Fall Show at Monticello.

I am feeling a little claustrophobic as all the items for the show are beginning to fill up our home.

Underneath all the fabric on the above photo is a chair.

A wonderful old vintage chair.

It's in very sad shape but I had big plans for it...I don't know if that project will be done.

Why do I do that?

We brought home a lot of wonderful items this week-end, I wish I would have taken pictures of the van it was packed!

In the midst of getting ready for the show I thought it was way past time to rip up the deck and put a new one down!

What's one more project!

We're half way there, one more half of the deck to complete!

Farm Auction

We had to make a decision.

Should we stay home and hit the estate sales locally or hit the road and go to a farm auction.

We decided the farm auction was the way to go, and we're glad we did.

We had a great time!

I love on-site auctions!

It made for a long day but the weather was beautiful and we came home with a few treasures.

It was a good day!

When I can't seem to find her anywhere...I stop and look in my laundry cart!

When she was a wee thing, about a month ago, I would sew at the kitchen table.

She always wanted to be near so I would tuck her away behind me in my laudry cart.

She would settle in as happy as could be.

Miss Brooks is settling in quite nicely, although she torments her brother and sisters quite regularly.

Kari, this is a post for you and your mom and also the sweet girls at the shop!

A July Wedding!

Let me start off by saying, "July has been one busy month!"

This past week was filled with a wedding and a full week of camping.

As you may remember from a previous post my niece was getting married, July 16.

My sister asked if I would decorate for the reception and of course I wanted to.

(my sister and her two sons.)

Being 5 hours away, I can't help like I'd like to, so being a part of the wedding in this way was great!

I should say at this point I have a very talented sister-in-law who was so willing to jump in and help.

The area for the reception ran along the "Little Applegate River" it was quite beautiful.

Everyone helped...we had the guys opening up tissue flowers as we placed them around the chairs.

My niece's wedding had a country flair so I made aprons for all the ladies that helped with the food at the reception.

The wedding was lovely and the bride was beautiful!

A big "Thank you" to Kathy for helping me with the reception.

And a "Thank you" to my brother-in-law for taking all the photos.

Month of July Window

I wanted to show you a few pictures of the display window at Monticello.

I have it for the month of July so Friday I was busy getting it set up.

Due to the fact that the space has a large window in the front it's always difficult to take a full shot of the space.

The reflection of the cars, street etc... seems to be the picture the camera wants to take.

So I'll show you little areas of it.

I forgot my camera so my #1 gave me his phone for theses pictures.

So if you're in the neighborhood be sure to stop by!

Monticello will be closed on July 4th but will open again, July 5th!

We will be headed back in today as our little hutch sold out of the front window.

New Old Merchandise Ready To Go!

It's been a busy week around here!

This Friday I will be moving into the window at Monticello, for the month of July.

I can't wait!

My house can't wait!

My family can't wait!

So, today I did a lot of pricing.

I hope you'll be able to stop by and do a little shopping!

Life has been a little different for us with "Little Sister" around here.

If she's not playing she's sleeping and usually it's anywhere there's a cozy place or a warm body.

I can't walk very far and this little thing is climbing up my leg wanting to be held.

(she's moving all the time so it's so hard to get a still shot!)

And of course she makes me laugh and brings a smile to my face and I stop and hold her for a little while.

I mean how could you resist this face!

A Curve Ball

Sometimes life just throws you a curve!

This week we found out that our son might not be able to graduate from High School!

Wow, what a disappointment for all of us.

Apparently, he does not have enough hour or credits.

He is currently with an on-line school but since he was home-schooled his Freshman year our state does not give credits for this time...so one more year is required.

His advisor is still doing some checking but this looks like what we're looking at.

You might ask yourself, "Why didn't you know that before now?"

Well, this summer when my son was signing up for his classes.... the lady on the other end of the phone told him that if he wanted to graduate this year he would have to add a few more classes to his load, which he did.

Apparently, the school went through some personnel changes due to problems in house.

So, this information was not accurate.

Then to add another little curve.

The on-line school he is currently with is closing its doors as they were bought out my another on-line school.

Which...when I spoke with one of his teachers last week, it has been bought out again!

When I received the email regarding the school closing I'm afraid my first reaction was, "Whew graduating just in time!"

Wrong!

So, when life throws you a curve you say, "What exciting things does God have planned for us this year!"

And then you sit back and enjoy the ride!

I hope my son has the same attitude!

The Smell Of Peonies

Peonies...

Don't you just love them!

One of my favorite flowers.

I do wish they would bloom all summer through!

Their fragrance is amazing!

I believe this is my first year for white Peonies too.

Roses...

I'm so glad they bloom all summer long!

Last year my son transplanted a row of roses from the backyard to the end of the deck.

I'm enjoying them so much more as we don't have real good access to the backyard.

A little update on our Miss Brooks.

I took her to her doctor appointment on Friday and yes she is a she!

She is in very good health but she did have ear mites so the doctor treated her for that and she's doing much better.

We are enjoying her so much.

She has brought a lot of activity to our home.

She has picked up the nickname, "little sister", from John Wayne's old movie "True Grit".

It fits her!

Our Miss Brooks

It is now after noon........I have got nothing done........I had plans today to sew two aprons........that hasn't happened.

Why, you ask?

Well, this little guy or girl came to our home.

I'm afraid to say this makes four!

I really don't want to be the little old lady you read about that has 95 cats in her house!

I don't!

I have to say though, they are all fixed so no little ones will be running around, except for this one.

This wasn't a planned event!

Oh, I just got a "flash back" my last one wasn't planned either!

A trip to Crispy Cream and I came home with a kitten!

No wonder I steer clear of that place!

I think I've completely gone over the edge and I wanted you to be the first to know!

I'm a soft touch!

Thank goodness for a sweet husband!

But this is it!!!

I don't care if these sweet little guys are cuddly and cute and full of life...I don't care if they do the silliest things and I love watching them!

This is the last one!

How did this happen you might ask!

Well, it all began last night...

We had just finished my son's "showcase" for his theater group when one of the mother's ~~sprinted~~, came up to me and ask if I would like a kitten.

Apparently, her neighbor had just given it to her because her dog had just eaten the sister kitten and they needed to find a home for it.

What, do I have a sign over my head that says, "Ask Me!"?

The family that had the kitten at the showcase last night were going on vacation the next morning (for 5 weeks) and were not able to take care of her.

I had seen a picture of her on the mother's phone and...she was small...cute and orange...a few of my favorite things.

We went outside to look at her...I know what you're thinking...1st mistake, right?

Well she was everything I envisioned her to be...small, cute and orange.

Talk about a "chick magnet", I don't usually use that term but let me tell you if a guy wanted to meet girls that's the way to do it.

We had such a large group of young ladies gathered around this kitten each wanting to hold her!

Well, to make a long story short, she came home with us.

Each one of our cats is named after an old time radio show character.

If this one turns out to be a girl her name is Miss Brooks.

Being that orange female cats are very rare.

Her name could change if we find out that she is a he.

Friday, we'll find out when she has her first vet. appointment.

As for the other cats, they are trying to get use to her, it will take time.

As for us...We're In Love with her!

White Wednesday Finds!

Wow, White Wednesday is here again!

I thought I'd show you my "Big" purchase I made this week-end.

Ok, so it's not so big, I'm being sarcastic but you know what?

I'm enjoying it just as much as if it were big.

This little ironstone pitcher was a whopping .25 cents!

It's got a lot of issues but I love it!

I love the dark crazing on these pieces, I don't even mind the dark crack running down it.

It will still hold water so it's even useful!

Another purchase I made this week-end was a chair.

Having cats in the house they like to destroy furniture.

And one chair in particular has gotten the bulk of their attention.

So when I saw this chair, for $12.50, at an estate sale I thought, "Why not?"

(sorry for the dark photo, the sun is shining in behind the chair, yes SUN!!!)

It's an old chair that was gently used.

There was extra fabric so I was able to make a couple of arm covers for it.

But, most importantly it will withstand kitty cats!

It's tough!

So even though we run around like crazy trying to stop the cats from their destructive habits it should be able to endure it.

Today, my #1 and I will celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary.

Wow, how time flies.

Love that man!

My Ateco Turntable

About a week ago I bought an old turntable used for decorating cakes.

Every since I saw it in Romantic Homes I've wanted one.

I believe the picture was one of Debbie's from Curious Sofa.

I'm thinking I'll have a lot of fun decorating with it!

It's vintage, it's cast iron!

Love it!

I can see where these would be fun to collect!

Maybe someday I could even use it for it's original purpose!

Pike's Place

This week-end my #1 and I decided to have some fun...we hit the road and headed for Seattle!

Last year around this time we had celebrated our anniversary in Seattle.

It was so much fun, I wanted to go back.

My favorite place was Pikes Place.

I wanted flowers...they have some amazing bouquets for what I feel was quite inexpensive.

Last year oh...around the 7th of June, they had oodles of Peonies, one of my favorites.

This year we went a few weeks earlier and tulips were the flower to be seen everywhere.

I grabbed a few bouquets!

Oh, if I was closer this would be my weakness.

The flowers transported wonderfully, I was so pleased!

Look at all those beautiful flowers!

There is even one Peony!

One of my favorite tulips there was the "Renowned Unique" Tulip.

I had to buy them, they look so much like Peonies, they are thick and luscious!

They haven't actually opened up yet so it will be fun to see what they look like once that happens.

Apparently, they are hard to grow as they are so tall and get so heavy they topple over.

As you can see they are quite tall, I cut off about 2" when I got home.

They could still be cut off a little more but this gives you an idea of their size.

So, if you're in the Seattle area I'd highly recommend Pikes Place.

The Bridal Shower

For this White Wednesday post I thought I would share some pictures from my niece's bridal shower.

One of the pretty things that filled my house were these beautiful Snowballs from my parent's yard.

Their tree is loaded with flowers and they really are quite beautiful.

This picture below is one of my favorites.

After the shower we had some fun with a little dress up time.

My little 2 year old great niece tried on a few vintage wedding items.

As you can see she loved what she saw in the mirror...but then again we all did, she's so darn cute!

It's just so fun being a girl!

Another thing I did to decorate was big tissue flowers.

They are quite easy to make so I did quite a few of them.

They do make a statement bringing in a lot of color.

If you're ever looking for tissue paper for this project, I have found that Walmart is the most inexpensive place to buy it.

I was originally paying $2.49 for it.

Walmart - $1.00 a package BIG DIFFERENCE!

Just a little piece of information in case you ever want to make these.

Another item I was looking for was "pink lemonade", not just any lemonade but Lorina lemonade.

I finally found it at World Market.

It's $4.99 a bottle for 25.4 ounces.

I'm saving the bottles and reusing them.

When I was at New Seasons looking for Lorina lemonade I spotted the glass bottles, selling for $7.99 a piece, bottle only!

So if you splurge and buy Lorina, think of it this way, you're getting a fun bottle, plus a fabulous drink for $4.99!!!

It makes it a little easier to buy.

Re-reading this post I think I'm sounding pretty cheap but I always like a good deal!

Amazing!

I'm still loving my enamelware pitcher.

I splurged this week while I was at New Seasons Market and I bought this beautiful bouquet of lilacs and snowballs.

My lilac tree has only given me one lilac thus far.

So, I've had to go and buy them this year.

My niece is getting married this summer so this coming Monday I will be hosting a shower for her.

I feel very fortunate to be able to do that, I love her so much!

Because of that, I headed to the Dollar Tree this week, looking for ice cream dishes.

I ended up buying a stack of white plates and bowls.

Never did find those ice cream dishes!

You know, for a dollar a dish, I think they'll be perfect!

Mother's Day

Being that tomorrow is Mother's Day my #1 bought me a dozen pink roses!

I love pink roses!

I was excited to use my enamelware pitcher.

I just picked it up at an estate sale this week-end.

Perfect!

Tomorrow we will celebrate Mother's Day at my house.

I am so fortunate to have my parents coming over tomorrow for that special day!

I'm quite sure I have the best mom a girl could ever have!

My #1 will be preparing salmon, shrimp and asparagus, three of my favorite dinner items.

For years after I was married I didn't think I would ever become a mother.

Not that I didn't want to, I wanted that so much it hurt!

In God's own time He graciously answered my prayers and 18 years ago He gave me a son.

I am truly blessed!

90% Off ...Count Me In!

This week I have had a lot of fun hitting a 90% off sale!

Yes, you heard right 90%!

It's always sad when little businesses are unable to make it but it sure is fun when they let us reap the benefits.

That's what I did this week.

This was a scrapbook store.

I'm not into scrapbooking but I love paper and I go through a lot of cardstock in the resale business.

See all the pencils in the above pictures...I don't know how to use them but at 90% off I'm willing to learn.

They are watercolor pencils as well as chalk pencils.

I went back three times!

They started to recognize me...I started to recognize other women I had seen the previous day shopping as well.

So I guess I wasn't the only one coming back time and again.

Be watching because I bought some duplicates....well, a lot of duplicates but some of the duplicates I bought will be for a giveaway, because we all like giveaways right.

And why not share the love!

On another note I went to one estate sale today.

I only bought two items but one of the items was a wonderful old cart.

The top of the cart is an old oak cutting board.

I'm not sure what the middle rack is for, it's only about 8" wide.

A Much Needed Makeover!.

Today, for White Wednesday, I thought I'd show you a table I picked up this week-end.

It looked nothing like what I'm about to show you.

It was stained, no paint.

The veneer on top was coming up in the middle, that couldn't be saved.

She had quite a few things against her but so many things right also!

I couldn't wait to get started.

First I sprayed her with primer, as I was doing that I said to myself, "You should be taking a picture!"....but I didn't!

So what you're going to see is the after!

Isn't she pretty!

After I got her primed and painted my #1 worked on the top portion of the table.

He tore the veneer off, sanded her down and put linseed oil on the top.

I love all the detailing on her!

She will reside in my living room...she's a keeper!

Sweet Peeps!

Have you ever just known that you bought something but were unable to find it anywhere...then you begin to wonder if you sold it or possibly gave it away...

but, were pretty sure you didn't!

For me it was eggs, large eggs (don't worry they were hollow) otherwise I would have smelled them.

I looked everywhere!

Finally this morning I found them tucked inside a cupboard, out of sight!

Unfortunately, a little late for my Easter decorating but at least I know I wasn't going nuts!

Hopefully, I'll remember where I put them for next year.

Because I wanted a few things to decorate my table for Easter.

I was glad when these sweet little chicks followed me home from the Monticello yesterday.

They are so darn cute that they'll probably stay out a little longer in anticipation of Spring.

I just know it's going to come in full force one of these days!

And I'll be here waiting!

More Goodies At Monticello

It was "Dealer Night" at Monticello last night.

This is where the vendors can come in after hours and re-do their booths and bring in more wonderful items for customers.

I took advantage of that and loaded up the car and went to work!

I revamped my area in the Garden Show, bringing in lots of new items.

So if you're in the neighborhood be sure to stop by!

Here are a few pictures of the inside of the little cabana I have.

Monticello is open, Monday thru Saturday, 10:00am to 6:00pm and Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

The Close of a Week-End!

Well, the week-end is coming to a close.

Insert "sad face".

I've had this past week off and let me tell you, "I loved it!".

I had a lot of fun going to thrift stores in the morning, doing a little sewing in the afternoons.

One project I got done was changing out the door panels of my hutch.

In one of my previous post I showed you the great cabinet I found.

I loved it, panels and all but being that it was in my dining room and I had all my ironstone in it, I wanted to be able to see it.

So I told my #1 what my plan was and he was willing to do it for me.

So, knowing glass for this cabinet would cost me around $24.00 a sheet, and I needed two, I decided to head to the Rebuilders Center and find an old window.

$4.00, a lot better!

So my sweet hubs took the glass out, did a little cutting then put it in the inside of the doors, framing each piece.

He does such a good job!

So, here's what it looks like now....WONDERFUL!

If I ever decide I want to put this cabinet somewhere else in my house, I've kept the inside panels just in case.

But for now I'm enjoying seeing what is on the inside of my cabinet!

Lastly, pillows ... I made quite a few of those this week.

Here is one that I kept for myself.

I found this wonderful fabric it reminded me of an old French Grain Sack, pretty expensive fabric but I loved it!

So, one stayed with me and two went to the shop.

You know how it goes....

I was going to check out one little thing on the computer...well that one little thing became a bigger thing and now I'm posting for White Wednesday.

Today, I'm in the midst of a mess!

I'm pulling out everything and pricing it for the Monticello Garden Show, which opens April 8th.

I'm very easily side tracked as pricing is not one of my favorite things to do.

After work today I decided to stop by the store and see what kind of flowers were arriving for Spring.

I'm pretty confident Spring is on it's way it's just a matter of time before the weather shows it.

The first thing I spotted when I walked through the door was white Hydrangeas!

A must have!

I can't wait for them to come up in my own garden.

While out treasure hunting this week-end I came across this old torn album.

Even though it's shabby and worn it still it quite beautiful and is full of sweet old photos.

Farm Fresh Eggs

I don't raise chickens but I sure do admire all the fabulous chicken coops I see out there.

I was fortunate today to have a friend share her beautiful chicken eggs with me.

I wish you could see how small they are and how really beautiful the colors are.

My photos do not do them justice.

There wasn't a white egg in the bunch.

It sounds silly but they're almost too pretty to eat!

Stashing Away!

Well, things are starting to accumulate around here.

Remember that clean dining room I had in a previous post....well, it's being filled up with treasures for the Garden Show at Monticello next month.

My storage room is full, I've borrowed space in my parent's garage...

so, any new furniture I happen to find from now until the beginning of April will land in the dining room!

You do what you gotta do!

Fortunately, this week-end found us hauling concrete pieces.

Well, fortunate for me that is, my #1 did some big time lifting!

The good thing about concrete is that it can be stored outside and still look great!

I have to admit there isn't any rhyme or reason to the photos I picked today.

Except for the fact that I'm joining in on White Wednesday
this week and thought desperately of what I could show you that you haven't possibly seen.

This is a 1944 wedding book.

A small,thin book full of pretty pictures and wedding information about William and Eleanor Berecz.

The other item I photographed is a vintage elementary school photo.

I have a couple of these but I have to say this is my favorite.

Don't you just love the little boy in the front row wearing the bow tie!

So darn cute!

Well, that was my little break from my daily business.

This week finds me at dress rehearsals every evening for my son's up coming play.

As well as working and trying to get in as much sewing as I can.

So I'm off!

I thought I'd show you an old French basket, most likely a purse, I found a few years back.

At the time I didn't realize it came from France.

But upon further inspection my #1 found that someone had written in the year as well as the country they hadgotten it from.

How cool is that?

I actually haven't figured out how I want to use it or display it but one of these days it will hit me.

So, for now I just enjoy the little bit of France I have at home.

Will It Snow?

With the forecast of snow looming on the horizon, muffins sounded wonderful today!

And since one of my boys had already put an order in for chocolate cake, why not make a batch of muffins too.

If you're in the mood for blueberry muffins here's a recipe you might like.

1 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup butter

2 eggs

2-1/2 cups flour

1 cup sugar

2-1/2 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. salt

1-1/2 cups blueberries

Bake @ 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

So while I watch and wait in anticipation for the snow tonight I'll enjoy a warm blueberry muffin and a cup of hot coffee.

It's Finished!

(Well, I probably shouldn't say finished as it's never really finished!)

Yesterday was a very productive day!

Being that it was President's Day, I had the day off from work.

Boy, did I use every minute.

I was determined to find my house!

I'm sure many of you can relate to looking for treasures... putting some in your mall space and saving more for upcoming shows.

I'm saying all this to say, I tackled my storage room!

Everything that was scattered throughout the living room and dining room found a new place in the storage room!

I threw away...went to Goodwill and marked items and took them to the shop!

Yeah!

Because of that I was able to take some pictures of my newly painted dining room.

So hold onto your seat I've got quite a few pictures.

A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate to find a couple of hutches at a barn sale.

I had been looking for one for my dining room so I was very pleased when I spotted this one.

It has all the chippy goodness one wants in a vintage piece.

The old window was found at an estate sale.

I needed something to put it on, as it needed to be brought up a little higher.

So, up came the dresser from the entryway.

It will work until I find something else, maybe something iron with chippy paint also.

I didn't get that Italian chandelier put up in my dining room but I really like the looks of it displayed above the cabinet, along with a few of my favorite old frames.

I decided to hang my curtains higher this time.

But that left an empty spot between the window and the rod.

I wanted an old weathered sign there but was unable to find what I wanted.

One day while shopping I came across this decal.

I loved everything about it so I decided to put it above the window.

My #1 thinks I'll probably get tired of it, he maybe right but for now I'm enjoying it.

The cabinet displays my favorite ironstone pieces really well.

When I was on the search for a cabinet I wanted a piece with the old weathered white paint on the outside but the natural wood on the inside.

That's what I found!

Isn't God good, He cares about even the little things that are important to us.

This is a favorite old hanger.

It folds in half, I thought it was pretty unusual.

The drawers are perfect to store my old silverware.

Still Painting...and Decorating...

White Paint And Tulips

The house is a mess ...

things all over the place!

Why, well this week I started to paint the kitchen.

My poor #1 wanted me to wait until summer as he said thought things would slow down.

He is so funny!

I reminded him, things never slow down...we're always in the midddle of project.

He agreed!

I decided to paint it "marshmallow", I love the color, it feels so clean and fresh.

Painting is not my favorite thing to do, but, I love the results.

Have you noticed how once you paint the walls all of a sudden the ceiling looks like it needs paint and then the trim...

As soon as everything is in order and finished, I'll show more photos.

I went to Safeway today...they have tulips!

Spring it's on it's way.

I couldn't resist bringing a little of that Spring into kitchen.

Mixing It Up A Little!

I'm not big into change.

I'm talking about decorating changes...vignettes to be exact.

But while searching the blog world....

and looking through the newest Pottery Barn catalog, I found some great ideas.

I decided to change out my "original" vignette of wedding toppers, in this cloche, and add these sweet little books and photo.

Pretty simple but it was fun to mix things up a little.

I had a wonderful old book measuring about 18"x24" which I added underneath the cloche.

One great thing about changing things around, you get a lot of dusting done!

I love heavy canvas items.

Recently I bought a large old canvas bag.

I loved everything about it.

My #1 thought I was a little nuts but...Oh Well!

UPDATE: To those of you that ask where I found this canvas bag. This was an estate sale find. Sorry, I would have loved to have told you that a particular store carried this fun bag!

Estate Shopping, Oh How I've Missed You!

I was able to hit an estate sale after work today.

BOY, did it feel good!

It's only been a couple of weeks but it feels like forever!

I love walking through the door of an older home...looking into boxes...scoping out the kitchen...running my fingers through the linens....checking out the garage and basement!

But along with estate shopping comes filling up that gas tank!

Ouch!

I paid $3.15 a gallon, that hurts!

I know I'm not the only one out there that is cringing when they look at their gas receipt.

Where do you live?

What are you paying for gas?

I know that $3.15 probably sounds pretty cheap to many of you.

On a happier note.

The weather has been beautiful here!

The sun has been shining and it makes me so ready for Spring!

I cleaned out my front flower bed and those little plants are starting to peek out from the soil.

I love Spring!

Pretty Soap and Other Things

Well, I'm about ready to head out the door for dinner with friends but I wanted to quickly do my White Wednesday post.

A week ago I was looking at every possible thing, on line, at the Pottery Barn.

They had items where the shipping was free.

That sounded pretty good so I decided to try these sweet little French soap.

They smell wonderful!

Roses!

I'm afraid I don't see them in their store anymore but they sure do have other pretty soap.

How about these fun cream colored soap with bees on them!

Or these Valentine hearts, perfect for Valentines Day!

I received my Jeanne d Arc Living Magazine in the mail today.

Yeah! Thank you Lori!

It's wonderful she sends me the magazine everytime it's stocked in her store.

I don't have to worry about calling and ordering it.

Look at the wonderful metal #11 she sent with my magazine.

What a great touch.

A Good Read!

I splurged this week-end!

I don't normally buy books from Borders, it's usually a magazine.

I would rather go to Amazon and buy one as it is so much cheaper.

But there is something nice about not having to wait for a book to arrive in the mail.

I wanted to buy some reading material and head over to Starbucks and enjoy a cup of coffee as well as a good book!

I ended up buying the book but never making it to Starbucks.

I think after buying the book I decided I'd save money and make the coffee at home!

Here is the book I ended up with.

French Country Style At Home

I enjoyed all the beautiful eye candy the pages had to offer.

Do you take advantage of your local library?

I sure do.

While I'm out blog hopping I make note of all the books I see on other blogs.

I then pull up the library's website and start placing a hold on the books.

It's a great way to check out a book and see if it's something you want to add to your personal library.

Here is a book I just recently checked out.

I love it!

I think it will be one I buy from Amazon.

My White Cabinet

First of all I have to apologize for the quality of these photos.

For being a White Wednesday (Tuesday) unfortunately it is a gray Tuesday!

The weatherman promised us snow and yet here we wait....nothing!!!

I'm a little disappointed!

But enough of that!

Here are a few close ups of the inside of this cabinet.

I want to simplify but there are so many things I hold onto for silly reasons.

1. Old Books- Why have I kept so many of these sweet things? It's the beautiful covers, I just love them!

2. Vintage Frogs- I love the wire or metal frogs. I try not to duplicate but when you find a new one....well, what can I say.

3. Old Bowls- they just have so much character, the color is great too!

4. Vintage Pottery- I have to say I have downsized quite a bit. I went through this cabinet and sold most of my pink pottery. There are a few pieces I hang onto as they were either given to me by a friend or I just love that piece.

5.Yellow vase- I have to say yellow is not my favorite color but this vase I keep for sentimental reasons. I remember my mother owning a vase like this one. I wondered what ever happened to it and she told me she had given it away. So, quite a few years ago I got on Ebay and started searching for one and that is why I own this yellow Royal Coply vase.

6. Old Sheet Music- I thought the rose on the front was so pretty. Of course looking at it now it's hidden behind books. I think it's time to get rid of it.

7. Jeanne d' Arc Living Magazines- Well, they're keepers!

8. Decorating Books- Keepers!

9. Vintage White Baby Shoes with buttons! -Keepers!

White Wednesday!

I wanted to show you a chandelier I picked up last week.

It needed to be re-wired and fixed up a little.

I originally was going to sell it at the shop but...I fell in love with it.

I believe it's an Italian chandelier.

I really want to put it in my dining room but my dear sweet husband is digging his feet in.

What am I going to do with that man?

He doesn't want to put it up as I have a perfectly good "new" light fixture in the dining room.

So...I'm waiting it out until he decides to see things my way.... the right way!

I decided to use it in the living room.

So it hangs from a bird cage stand lit up at night.

I'm enjoying it immensely, not as much as if it were hanging in my dining room, but it's still good!

I'm wanting to paint my kitchen and dining room.

I've been collecting some paint swatches.

Martha Stewart has a great color selection.

Aren't they wonderful colors!

I'm leaning towards the "talc".

I am so ready to get rid of the color in there now.

Come to think about it I was ready to get rid of it after I painted it.

It just wasn't the color I had visualized in my mind.

I'm ready for a neutral palette.

When I finally decide what I want I will show you the "before and after" pictures.

Well, I couldn't resist going back and looking at pictures taken from the last twelve months.

I've never journaled so having a blog helps me remember different events from the past year.

Do you have goals for this year?

I went to a health class yesterday and one of the things the lady teaching the class wanted us to do, after her big spill on eating right, is make a goal for this year.

So...my goal was to eat breakfast...apparently we all need to eat breakfast within an hour from when we wake up.

FAILED....forgot to do it this morning!

And when I finally did eat I went to the yummiest, high fat cafe!

I just get too busy!

I consider that was my trial run.

The new year doesn't start till tomorrow right!

Hopefully I'll do better!

It seems like forever since I've participated in White Wednesday,but I thought I'd go through my files and see what I could come up with.

The first couple of pictures are a few things I made this year for the Christmas show.

Linen pillows with ruffles!

I love how they look all stacked up on top of eachother.

Here are some cloth book covers I made.

I used vintage fabric and then transfered the name of the book on the cloth binding.

I was pleased with how they turned out, they were fun to make.

Vintage mittens.

Look real close and you can see the wonderful old clips with snowmen on them, keeping those mittens together.

Christmas Past

All the stockings were hung by the chimney with care.

I hope your Christmas was full of joy and family.

But most importantly thankfulness for the most precious gift we were given, Jesus!

This year we were able to travel to my sister and brother-in-law's house and enjoy Christmas with nieces, nephews, grandniece/nephew, parents etc...

It was good to get away and spend time with family.

While there we had a special treat of a few other visitors.

They live out a little ways so it was fun to see the deer wander up to the porch looking for new plants to nibble or bits of bread that they'd eagerly eat.

Soggy Wet Pickin Week-End!

This has been a soggy, wet "pickin" week-end.

But despite the rain my #1 and I found a few things while out treasure hunting.

My mind is starting to think "Garden Show".

You know Spring is right around the corner and I've got to think ahead.

We were able to purchase a few pieces of concrete this week-end, that's always fun to find.

I also bought some wonderful old vintage curtains which I've started to make into Christmas stockings.

I'll be bringing them into the shop this week.

The Christmas show is still going on at Monticello.

If you haven't been there yet you'll want to make the trip.

A big "thank you" to everyone that came out, we couldn't do it without you!

Getting Ready For The Show!

Life has gotten very busy as of late.

I've been sewing up a storm, painting, pricing and cleaning.

So much to get ready for as the Christmas Show at Monticello is four days away.

Time did stand still for a little while as my #1 had hernia surgery a week ago.

His surgery went well and he is on the mend now.

It was a cold Thanksgiving with temperatures in the 20's.

We even got a light dusting of snow.

My family and I did take a four day break and went to visit my sister and her family for Thanksgiving.

It is good to see family and I do miss seeing them.

Remember if you're in the area be sure to visit Monticello.

The Show opens Friday, December 3rd at 8:00am.

You're in for a real treat!

Portland Flower Market

I have been so caught up with "Mall Cops" the past couple of days.

I found it on Netflix last night and it fascinates me!

Hopefully, there's not a Season 2!

Otherwise two more days...

Yesterday, I got the chance to visit the Portland Flower Market with a couple of sweet friends, Kari and Kathryn
.

You need to be a member to visit so this was a special treat.

Besides flowers there were Fall and Christmas items.

Candles, glass, paper....

And then we went to the flowers....

Beautiful....just beautiful!

A Beautiful White Wednesday!

I'm afraid I wasn't too creative with the White Wednesday post this week.

I've got so many projects in the fire as well as ideas running through my head.

If I just had a few more hands...wow that would be great!

The pictures you see are a few of the finds from this past week-end.

I'm building up my stock for the Christmas Show at Monticello.

It just blows me away how quickly Christmas is approaching.

This has been a busy week.

We've been setting up our new space at the shop.

It's always wonderful when everything falls together and you can see the final result of all your work.

I've kept my #1 very busy too!

Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the large wall he built for the backside of our booth so you'll just have to believe me that he did a great job!

I love the final results.

But first off I'll show you a before picture.

The gentleman before me hadn't quite gotten out all his things yet.

I love the results!

Things have been busy around here!

I was hoping to get my White Wednesday post up a lot earlier but it just didn't happen.

Here are some large hollow eggs my #1 found at a recent estate sale.

It's great to have another "Picker" with you while treasure hunting!

I found this old silica bag in an old box my #1 bought.

Made with fabric, not like the ones you find in shoe boxes.

Aged to perfection!

One of the projects I'm working on is getting my new space put together at the shop.

It's kind of scary, I've been in my space for 9 years and think it's just the perfect spot.

But...I've wanted a little more room as I'm storing a lot of inventory at home, when it could be at Monticello.

The space I had my eye on became available last week so we've been scurrying around getting things prepared.

The wedding was beautiful!

I wanted to show you the amazing chapel she got married in, I knew you'd love it as much as I did.

Velvet Strawberries

I've always enjoyed looking at, Andrea's ,vintage velvet strawberry collection.

I've never personally been able to find these beauties...

...until today!

I arrived at an Estate Sale an hour after it opened.

Since it was a sale that usually has very good prices, I didn't know how much would be left.

This sweet little purse was the first thing I found.

My #1 just couldn't believe I was going to blog about this...but you know when you're a blogger most everything is worthy of a story!

Old Wire Fencing

Welcome to White Wednesday!

I thought I'd show you a little area in my bedroom.

The bedroom is a continuing work in progress.

Someday it may even get finished!

I wanted to show you something I just recently added to it.

A piece of old wire fencing.

I often dry flowers then start looking around the house for somewhere to hang them.

They've been seen in my studio, living room and even the kitchen.

That's not a bad thing, but now I have a specific spot to dry them.

And it's kind of pretty too!

A Few Touches of Fall!

It was time to get out what few Fall decorations I have.

Who would have thought pumpkins would be so hard to find!

But because of all the rain we had, they haven't hit the grocery stores as quickly as they have in the past.

My mom actually found me some small ones on her way to the coast!

Yeah!

Even though my son is 18 (18, I can't believe it)he just turned 18 this past week.

He still loves it when I add holiday decorations around the house.

And since my beautiful pink rose bush isn't giving me the roses I want right now.

It was time to take a trip to the store.

It's 80 degrees and sunny in Portland right now, a beautiful Fall day!

A Little Re-Arranging

So, I did a little re-arranging today.

I don't know if it was the fact that it felt like Fall ant it was rainy today or that I'm fighting a cold and do not feel like doing anything.

Or maybe it's because after I looked at the pictures of my corner hutch I was ready to do something a little different.

Whatever it was I decided to play around with a few things.

For starters I decided to pull out an old buttermilk jar I had in the cupboard.

I love the graphics on it and decided to display it.

Then I rummaged through my supplies and pulled out a few old boxes.

You just can't give a new box the beauty that an old one brings.

I've been collecting a lot of old silverware and it's hidden in the cupboards also.

I haven't found the perfect box to put then in but this one will have to work for now.

So, now I'm on the look out for a small old wood box with cubbies or sections to hold my silverware upright.

Or, I might just have to see if my #1 can take some old wood and put sections in this wood tote.

That sounds pretty good too!

Well, I better go, I can't wait to tell my #1 about his new project!

I know he'll be thrilled!

Bottles & Books

I just love most everything about them.

Their shape...the old metal lids and chippy worn paint...old labels turned brown from age...

Old books.....

Don't even get me started on that!

I found a bunch of old books this past week-end.

Fifty cents a piece!

Now you just can't go wrong with that.

Aren't the covers wonderful.

These are some of my favorite books to find.

Not to mention the sweet pictures in many of them.

An Evening At The Auction!

Well, I feel like I just got rid of a load of furniture for the Fall Show and here I'm starting to collect furniture for the Christmas Show.

Yes, that's right....Christmas, it will be here before you know it.

Friday night my #1 and I headed to the auction.

I had seen an old school table that I wanted.

Here's a picture of it at the auction house.

Since the competition was pretty high that night I waited till later in the evening to ask for the table to be brought up.

I was hoping the person bidding on practically every item would spend their wad and call it a night.

Unfortunately, that didn't happen but I did manage to get a few good pieces, the table being one of them.

Since Sundays are 1/2 off day at estate sales here in town, my #1 and I headed to one after church.

We actually found a nice old cabinet and these old wood embellishments.

Some of these are old light switch covers.

Some of these pieces will work perfectly to embellish a plain piece of furniture.

Chipped to perfection!

I've sold many and have only kept a few.

Sometimes I wish I would have kept many and sold only a few.

Homemade soap...

I like that too!

There was a time when I made soap... you know one of those many things that I just had to try!

But alas, I can't do everything!

Monticello Fall Premier Show

I'm finished setting up and I wanted to show you what I've been up to.

For starters I had a big project I needed my #1 to do for me.

I wanted him to build me a house out of old doors.

Since my space for the show was in the middle of the room there were no walls.

Well, he made me one and I couldn't be more pleased with it.

If you wondered what I did with the doors I picked up a couple of weeks ago, well this is it!

You really can't see the wonderful old doors and windows under the ruffled roof but they're there.

We started setting up for the show this past Saturday and continue to do so through Thursday.

Elmer & Olive

This was a great week-end for treasure hunting!

On one of our treasure hunts my #1 came across a box of old letters!

Old letters....

World War II

Love letters from Elmer to his wife Olive.

They had been married about 6 years before he went off to war.

In one of the letters she talked about being pregnant and feeling very sick!

Oh, how he appreciated getting letters from Olive!

This is Elmer.

I found these pictures in the stack of letters.

I was also able to find out more information about Elmer and his wife online!

How fun is that!

Elmer enjoyed making cider.

He had a cider press in his garage.

The garage was full of old jars of every kind.

I was able to buy a few of those old jars.

After getting to know Elmer a little bit more I wished I had picked up a few more jars from him.

There were lots of miscellaneous papers from the war included in this box.

In one letter Elmer wrote and asked his wife if she had received the French money he had sent her in the mail.

I did not expect to find the money.

But I did, in another letter!

Isn't that cool!

In some of his letters he told about gifts that he was going to be sending to his wife.

It sure would have been fun to have read the letters describing these items before the estate sale so I could have actually found some of those items.

There were also a few letters from his sweetheart Olive in the boxes.

Doors...Can you get too many?

Twelve...is that too many?

My #1 thinks it is!

Yesterday, while pondering the big question of...should I or shouldn't I?

I was wondering if it would be worth seeing a grown man cry when he found out that I just bought two more amazing doors.

I decided it was worth it, he'd get over it!

I mean, you just can't produce this kind of fabulous chippy paint!

It takes years!

I don't have years.

I have a project in mind and these doors would be perfect!

Before you start to think I'm addicted to doors, I do use them for shows!

They make wonderful backdrops.

But for this project I needed doors with windows, and that's what I found!

Thanks to Sue's husband Joe, who hauled these to my truck, I was able to get these home!

Do you want to see what kind of an estate sale at which I purchased these?

This was a farm sale.

There were a couple of outbuildings as well as things all over the land surrounding the house.

There were many things to see and to find.

I looked at this stack and thought of Frank & Mike.

I wondered if they would have found something great from it.

Well, I drove away with a bunch of items for the upcoming show at Monticello.

I know my friends Sue and Julie as well as another Julie, all from Monticello, found some great items too!

"Lovin" White Wednesday!

Could happiness come with something as simple as new throw rugs?

I think it can!

I won't bore you with pictures of all the rugs I bought today but let me tell you I'm "lovin" my rugs!

There's just something clean and fresh about them.

Plus I think they are making them so much softer, feeling so wonderful when you walk on them.

Ok, enough of that!

Do you like old packaging?

I do!

I enjoy some of the old graphics.

The paper that has turned slightly brown from age.

This cording doesn't have the cool graphics but it's old so it fits the bill!

And of course it's creamy white for White Wednesday!

Make Mine Pink!

This is what happens when your son goes to visit a friend for a week.

Time!

Not as much running here and there from one place to another.

Empty nest is coming quickly, I know I will miss those days.

So what did I do today....sew!

I decided to make another top.

I just love this pattern it's so simple and quick!

This time I took another Rachel Ashwell sheet (with a ruffle) and made it into a blouse.

I love how it turned out!

I also made a seat slipcover, it was good to get a few things made today.

Since the blouse is pink I thought I'd take my camera and capture a few more pink items I had around the house.

Aren't they pretty!

Lisa from A Thing For Roses gave these to me a few months ago.

Four boxes of them!

I thought they'd be perfect attached to little packages that go out in the mail.

Ribbons...I enjoy those!

I've had these for years.

I really think they're pretty neat so they've stayed with me.

This is a sweet sixteen topper.

I've never run across one of these before.

Kind of a fun topper.

This was a purchase from Lisa, she gave me a "whoppin" good deal.

Very Sweet!

I don't have a lot of pink anymore but I have saved a few things!

And of course I still love to wear it!

Not Just For Buggies Anymore!

If you look real closely you'll see a couple of lazy cats in the background!

It's been quite hot this week-end with temperatures in the 90's.

The weather man is saying 100 degrees tomorrow!

It's been so nice to have central air in our home!

(It won't be so nice when I get the bill, but until then I'll enjoy it.)

It was one of those splurges that we did years ago when we were both working. . (Glad we did it!)

Old buggy wheels, I was fortunate to come across quite a few of these last week-end.

I love the rustiness about them.

The old caps on them!

The fact that they're old!

So many uses for them.

Besides displaying old postcards and photos on, I also think they would be a great way to hang curtains!

I'm sure you could come up with many other uses too!

I'm so glad for people who save things.

It just makes this part of the adventure so much fun!

Who Am I?

While out treasure hunting today, I couldn't pass up this sweet vintage doll.

I'm afraid I don't know much about dolls.

I buy them because I just like their look!

And she had all the sweet vintage appeal that I love.

She's a soft body doll with a voice box.

So, she will give a little cry when turned over.

Her legs show a lot of age but they're still holding together.

Her arms are in pretty good shape.

I don't see any makers marks.

I know they're a lot of ladies with a wealth of information on dolls.

Does anyone know anything about this doll?

She so wants to know her history!

A Few More Finds!

Welcome to White Wednesday!

I've been on the hunt for great treasures for the Fall Show at Monticello.

The show opens September 10th.

The first thing I thought I'd show you is this small celluloid book.

I found this a few weeks ago.

I love the small size, the color and the fact that it is so old, dated 1899.

The first couple of pages are pretty worn but that's good, its been used.

I also found quite a few vintage ladies shoes dating back to the 1800's.

Old Erle Stanley Gardner books for a chilly Fall evening.

Don't know any of the people, just love vintage photos.

My Splurge!

I thought I'd show you a piece I picked up at Monticello this week-end.

I loved it, it was cast iron, rusty, chippy, heavy and white!

Everything about it screamed, "Take me home with you!"

"I will! I will!!!" I shouted back.

(It seems like something else screamed that recently.)

An old garden fence!

It's a fun size measuring 19" tall.

I just don't come across many things like this so....I splurged!

Things aren't always perfect with old items.

This piece was a little lopsided so it needed a little help!

Tacky...maybe.

But just keeping it real!

I thought it would be a great idea to pick a bunch of Thistles for the Fall Show at Monticello (you know "fluff") until....I woke up this morning to see all the "down" all over the table.

I didn't think about that!

(look real close, they're everywhere!)

It started growing last night.

"Down" popping out from the purple flowers.

I found it fascinating!

When I awoke this morning I was amazed at how much more down had come out of a single flower.

Just like bubbles overflowing in a bathtub.

I didn't want to disturb the down as I wanted my son to see it.

But I couldn't wait around as I had to do some treasure hunting!

I was crossing my fingers hoping when my son saw it he wouldn't start blowing it around the house and we'd be covered with Thistledown!

Whew, he didn't!

I don't know that I'll have Thistle bouquets in the future, but they sure are pretty..... outside.... in someone else's yard!

The Color Purple

I have to admit, purple is not one of my favorite colors.

But today, while outside, I found a large Thistle.

The flowers are quite pretty.

But WOW be sure sure to wear thick gloves when cutting them as...Ouch!

They are quite "prickly".

They sure make a pretty bouquet though!

I also picked up a few lavender bottles this past week.

Lavender...I do enjoy growing it!

I love its fragrance as well as beauty.

So I guess I should restate what I said.

Purple isn't one of my favorite colors but I sure do love it in flowers and glass bottles!!!

Blue Glass

This was my week-end for blue glass!

I must have had my antenna out in search mode because I seemed to notice it everywhere.

I just love how the blue pops out when surrounded by white.

I came away with bottles of different shapes and sizes some with stoppers some with none.

I also found canning jars small and large.

Barn House Flea Market

Today my #1 and I headed to the Barn House sale.

We had never been before and were told that this was a great one to go too!

And it was!

Flea Market Find!

A few months back I went to a small Flea Market in town.

One of the things I found was a wonderful chippy metal display piece.

I'm not sure what you call it, but I do know that I really liked it!

I liked the fact that it had chippy paint with a bit of rust.

The scrolling metal was pretty nice as well.

It just screamed, "Take me home!"

I wasn't really sure what I was going to display in it.

I thought three old jars would be nice but I didn't have any.

Candles would also be nice, didn't have those either...at least three that matched.

I had three soup cans!

So, I decided to cover them with old paper and do a little stamping.

I then used one of my favorite crafting supplies, "Mod Podge"

Instant little vases!

I love finds like these!

White Wednesday Finds & Projects!

Just recently I came upon a bunch of old flour and sugar bags.

I had to do a lot of digging as they were in an attic with lots and lots of bags of fabrics, linens and other things.

Those are my kind of sales!

I do love to dig!

Do you like old cane chairs?

I sure do!

I just recently found two of them in great condition.

Many times the cane has been pretty messed up.

I found this chair at the same sale where I found the flour sacks.

The chair was gold.

That had to go!

I envisioned it white!

I like it so much better now!

I've got so much to do to get ready for the Fall show at Monticello.

One chair done one more to go!

Here's a cane chair that I've had for awhile.

I recovered the seat on this one and added a soft feather cushion to it.

See the vintage crochet pillow.

I picked this up a few years ago.

When I looked inside of it I was surprised to find vintage nylons stockings.

An interesting way to stuff a pillow!

Estate Sale Junkie!

Well my family and I returned home from camping on Saturday.

We had a good time with family and just getting away from the normal routine.

Since we returned back to Portland around 2:30pm we were able to go to the tail end of a few sales.

This old metal box was one of my finds.

I'll try and release it from my fingers for the Fall Show.

I just love these old boxes.

I think the old aged tags that still remain are pretty sweet!

Another thing....books!

I think I have a fettish for books.

I'm not a book connoisseur but if they have the "right look" and they are old, I'll buy them!

That was the case this week-end.

I walked in the door and spotted these books right away!

A nice light grey cover.

There's about 27 of them.

circa 1920.

And look at those edges, I love edges like that!

The next few books I bought a couple of different places.

They are very tiny old books!

The smallest measuring 3".

All in browns and blacks.

Even though I wasn't able to hit the trail on Friday and early Saturday.

I did manage to pick up a few things and get my estate shopping fix!

I actually thought these were very large Dandelions but my #1 informed me they were Thistledown.

A Couple of Fun Finds!

It was a good week-end "treasure hunting"!

I was able to get out all three days!

While standing in line to pay for my items at an estate sale I went to on Friday.

I caught sight of a large piece of coral!

Wow, I didn't realize coral was so heavy!

Last time I saw a piece of coral I didn't purchase it.

I could have kicked myself!

This time I snagged it!
