You know us "Scrappers", we're willing to humiliate ourselves for a good deal!
Everything sounded good, they were old, rusty and metal!
But, I had to wait until after work to run by and check them out.
So after work I jumped in the car and headed out.
When I got there I was relieved that they were still there.
But, when I got out of the car there was an older man across the street, cleaning up his yard.
He looked at me pretty strangely but I gave him a smile and got out of my car to inspect the chairs.
I could feel my whole body turning red but these chairs were worth it so I ignored him and started loading the chairs.
Fortunately, they fit in the car and I could quickly get back in and hurry off before someone came running after me, yelling "Why are you taking my chairs!"
I mean, don't you think about things like that when you pick them up off the street!
Well, I got them home and cleaned them up, they're actually cast iron chairs, they're quite heavy.
They have great lines.
I needed to put some kind of cushion on them so I had a couple of feather pillows that worked perfectly.
I thought burlap would fit the bill, so I used that.
I was able to finish the project quickly and they're at the Garden Show awaiting a new home.
Just another day in the life of a "Junker".

Debbie,
Good for you, you made something rather pedestrian into a great, and very chic find!!! Well done....
Love your blog!
sometimes you'be gotta put yourself out there, I've missed out on stuff 'cos I've been too timid! Good for you!
Tracey
I would have picked them up too! Glad I am not the only one who pulls over to check something out!
Love the cushions too!

You did good, I too when I see something free by the side of the road, I let one of my dealer friends know and let them decide if they want it. Good job Debbie.Florence
OMG!!!!! HOW COOL FOR YOU. WHAT A SCORE. MARY
would i? heck yeah! i have found some of the best stuff ever on the side of the road. i have found stuff halfway into a 4 mile walk and carried them home for fear someone else would get them first. they are awesome. congrats on your find.
hugs,

oh..how this post made me laugh! YES...there have many humiliating moments when i'm "dumpster diving" but there are some treasures that are well worth it! Made me laugh out loud when you said you sped off before anyone came running after you. i always worry about that too! I need to get me a "partner in crime" who sits in the "getaway car" for a speedy exit! hope you have a great day!
warm regards,

YES I WOULD TOO! Score on those chairs girl!
Hi, i found your blog through Passionate for White and what a cute story and i wonder what the old man was thinking - funny! I always wonder if the person that tossed them would see them again, looking all shabby chic and beautiful - they totally would be like oh crap why didnt i keep them and do that!
I'm a brand new blogger of 2 weeks, if you have some time, come over for a visit sometime http://paintedwhyte.blogspot.com
Have a good day - Linda
